The California Postsecondary Education Commission is charged under State law with a number of responsibilities regarding academic planning, including the analysis of all proposals submitted by the University of California, the California State University, and the California Community Colleges for new academic programs.In this information item, staff will review the Commission’s present efforts to meet these mandates. It is a preliminary review of this on-going Commission function, preparatory to reestablishing its series of regular staff reports about the oversight of academic programs in California’s public colleges and universities. This item is the latest edition of the Commission’s Student Profiles report, a factbook about student participation in California higher education. It contains comprehensive data about student enrollment, transfer, and degree awards. Some of the profiles provide area- or district-specific data for the most recent three- to 10-year period. This edition has been expanded to provide more detailed information on the California Community Colleges and the independent institutions.
