2005-06 Budget Update

Staff will present an oral summary on the development of the 2005-06 fiscal year State budget since the release of the Governor's May Revision on May 13. Presenter: Kevin Woolfork.

Improving Teacher Quality Federal Grant Program Update, June 2005

Fact Sheet on Deferred Maintenance Needs of California Public Higher Education

Implementing the Commission's Student Record System -- First Steps

This item provides a progress report on the Commission's efforts to implement a longitudinal student record system. Staff will discuss issues encountered during initial processing of the data. Presenter: Marc Irish.

There will also be a presentation by the California School Information Services staff on its efforts to develop a comprehensive data collection system for K-12 education.

Website Demonstration

Staff will demonstrate popular features of the Commission website. Presenter: Gus Cubillo.

Student Transfer in California Postsecondary Education

This report provides information on California's various higher education transfer processes and assistive programs and describes legislative initiatives intended to improve the transfer function. It concludes with a set of recommendations that will help both students and institutions plan better for successful student transitions from community colleges to the State University, University of California, and independent institutions. Presenter: Kevin Woolfork.

Commission Review of New Academic and Vocational Programs Proposed by the Public Higher Education Systems, 2004-2005

This report summarizes the results of academic and vocational program reviews conducted by the Commission during the reporting period 2004-05. The report also includes a model for enhancing the evaluation of joint doctoral programs in educational leadership, and a summary of key issues related to SB 724 (Scott) that would authorize the California State University to award an independent doctorate degree in a limited number of selected fields. Fact Sheet on California Baccalaureate Production and Labor Market Demand

Staff will present a comparison of degree production in California with job projections prepared by the California Employment Development Department. These projections show that about a quarter of California job openings will require a bachelor or higher degree. Presenter: Adrian Griffin.

The Nexus Between Postsecondary Education and the Workforce: Next Steps

Staff will report to the Commission on the first meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee for a study on the nexus between postsecondary education and workforce development, and will also review research questions that will guide the next steps in the development of a policy brief.
