The Commission provides this Guide to California Colleges and Universities as a service to the public.

Please keep in mind that inclusion of an institution in this Guide does not imply an endorsement of its courses, degrees or educational outcomes.

The guide includes the following degree-granting colleges and universities:

  • California Community Colleges: All main campuses approved by the California Community Colleges System Office.
  • California State University: All main campuses approved by the California State University Office of the Chancellor.
  • University of California: All main campuses approved by the University of California Office of the President.
  • Other Public Institutions: Two additional public institutions supported with monies appropriated by either the State or Federal governments, each with its own governing body.
  • WASC-Accredited & AICCU Members: All main campuses in California accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
  • State-Approved and Exempt: Degree-granting colleges and universities approved to operate in the State of California or exempt from this approval. At this time, this list is frozen. The previous approval agency, the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE), closed on June 30, 2007, due to the sunset clause in its establishing legislation. Until a new agency is authorized, no changes will be made to the current list.
