Maps By Higher Education Systems
Higher Education in California can be divided into the following segments.Click below for a map and listing of schools in each segment.
- University of California: All main campuses approved by the University of California Office of the President.
- California State University: All main campuses approved by the California State University Office of the Chancellor.
- California Community Colleges: All main campuses approved by the California Community Colleges System Office.
- Other Public Institutions: Two additional public institutions supported with monies appropriated by either the State or Federal governments, each with its own governing body.
- Private Institutions: All main campuses in California accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
- AICCU Private Institutions: All main campuses in California accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and member of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU).
- State-Approved Institutions: Degree-granting colleges and universities approved to operate in the State of California. At this time, this list is frozen. The previous approval agency, the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE), closed on June 30, 2007, due to the sunset clause in its establishing legislation. Until a new agency is authorized, no changes will be made to the current list.
