Kenneth A. Noonan

Kenneth A. Noonan is no longer a member of the Commission. The biography supplied below dates from his or her Commission membership.


Kenneth A. Noonan Kenneth A. Noonan was appointed on August 14, 2006 as the representative to the Commission by the State Board of Education and served at the pleasure of the State Board of Education. His term expired on March 26, 2008.

Mr. Noonan has served as Superintendent of the Oceanside Unified School District since February 1997.

Education:

  • Administrative Credential, Claremont Graduate School
  • M.A. - Education, with a concentration in Bilingual Education, Whittier College
  • B.A. - Social Studies and English, California State University, Los Angeles

Awards and Honors:

  • Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California State Board of Education, April 2005
  • Recognized in 2003 as Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators
  • Nominee for California in New Orleans, LA, 2003 National Superintendent of the Year

Activities:

  • Developed and Administered in Gilroy a program School of Choice and began programs to combat violence, gang problems, and a high dropout rate
  • Superintendent, Corcoran Joint Unified School District and Gilroy Unified School District
  • Appointed Director of Secondary Education with responsibility for several schools
  • Taught English and Shakespeare at the high school level and later taught bilingual classes at the junior high level where he became the director of a large bilingual program
