H. Eric Schockman, Vice Chair

H. Eric Schockman, <i>Vice Chair</i> H. Eric Schockman was appointed to the California Postsecondary Education Commission by Governor Schwarzenegger on March 21, 2007, to represent the general public.

Dr. Schockman is President of MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger since January 2001. Established in 1985, MAZON is a national nonprofit organization that allocates donations from the Jewish community to prevent and alleviate hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Dr. Schockman speaks before elected officials, professional organizations and synagogues and community groups across the country. He is frequently quoted in The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, CNN, NPR, and other national publications and electronic media. He resides in Sherman Oaks, California with his husband of 25+ years.

  • Author of several books and editor of many articles on politics in California and presented on scholarly panels on this same topic
  • Academic Advisor, New Leaders Project, a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles that provides young Jews with training in social action
  • Former Associate Dean / Adjunct Associate Professor, Political Science, Univeristy of Southern California
  • Former Executive Director, Edmund G. "Pat" Brown Institute of Public Affairs and Adjunct Professor of Political Science, California State University, Los Angeles
  • Former Consultant, California State Assembly and the Los Angeles City Council
  • Served on the Little Hoover Commission, a bipartisan, independent body whose function is to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and economy in State programs
  • Served in the Peace Crops in Sierra Leone, West Africa teaching agricultural and sustainable development
