No Child Left Behind & Additional Guidance
The Improving Teacher Quality State Grants Program-Title II, Part A of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
Act of 2001-is an effort by the federal government to improve teaching and learning in America's
schools. NCLB establishes two programs: a formula grant program administered by the K-12 state
department of education, and a competitive grant program administered by a higher education agency.
Under Title II, Part A of NCLB, the Commission conducts competitions to award grants to Institutions of Higher
Education (IHEs) that are working in partnership with high-need Local Educational Agencies (LEA). This
document does not relate to the formula portion of the Improving Teacher Quality State Grants Program
administered by the CDE.
Annual formula grants for districts may be found at
www.cde.ca.gov/fg/aa/ca/titleii.asp.
Select the appropriate funding year and click on "Funding Results," then on the "Schedule" under
"Entitlements" on the next page. The schedule is listed in county order, and all districts for the state
are listed. These funds may be used for the same purposes as the Improving Teacher Quality State Grants
and may be used to augment Commission grant funds.
