Published by The California Postsecondary Education CommissionJanuary 1991View Full Publication
In July 1990, the California Legislature directed the Commission to undertake a study of the role and value of the California State University's central administration and to submit a progress report on that study by the end of January 1991 and a final report by June 30, 1991. This document is the progress report for that study. It contains as an appendix a report by the State University on the evolution of its central administration, and it includes a review by Commission staff of relevant national literature on higher education governance (pp.2-3), a synthesis of impressions obtained by the staff from interviews with a number of individuals both within and outside of the State University (pp.3-5), a list of preliminary conclusions from the study thus far (pp.5-6), and the staff's plans for further study prior to submitting a draft of the final report to the Commission in June (p.6). The Commission discussed this report at its meeting on January 28. Additional copies of the report may be obtained from the Publications Office of the Commission.
