School Code Mapping System

The California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC) has created a mapping system for California institutions. The purpose of this mapping system is to provide a comprehensive set of codes used by the Commission, the higher education segments (California State University, University of California, California Community Colleges), other state agencies (California Department of Education), federal government such as National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), and other educational organizations (College Board), etc.

Currently, the system includes the following codes. To see a description of the codes, please visit the Glossary.

Download CDS / School Codes or Cross-Walk

You can also view or download either the entire CDS (County-District-School) or the Cross-Walk file to your computer. These files are generated on demand from the most recent data.

If you want to download or view a subset of the data, click on Select Filter Options. For example, you can select to download or view only open high schools in Merced county.

Recent Updates to the County-District-School (CDS) and Cross-Walk Files

This section lists recent updates to the County-District-School (CDS) and Cross-Walk files. Each file will have its own section outlining recent changes in order by the most recent date.

Updates to County-District-School (CDS) File:

May 9, 2009: The address fields (Mailing_Address_Line, Mailing_City, Mailing_Zip_Code, and Mailing_Zip_Extension) were added to the downloaded files.
March 23, 2009: Congress_Dist was readded. CC_District_Code was added.
December 12, 2008: School_Type column was removed to improve consistency and quality.
March 11, 2008: The following columns were removed:

March 12, 2008: School_ID column renamed to Record_ID; Segment_Code and Institution_ID columns removed.
