Barbara Illowsky

Dr. Barbara Illowsky is a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at De Anza College in Santa Clara County. From January 2007 through this June, she has served as the Project Director for the California Community Colleges Basic Skills Initiative. She was also the first project director for the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, run by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, and continues to participate on its Steering Committee. She is co-author of an elementary statistics textbook used at dozens of colleges that is now freely available as an OER. Her video lecture series for the course was the first complete course from any community college that was freely available on iTunesU. She has been honored with numerous awards, both local and national, for her innovative work in mathematics education.

Dr. Illowsky earned her B.S., Phi Beta Kappa, in Mathematics at the State University of New York at Albany. She earned her A.M. in Statistics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and her PhD in Education, focusing on Instructional Design for Online Learning, at Capella University.
